Celebrating Nature Preservation Day

Nature Preservation Day in our Hometown

Renewal by Andersen, and its parent company Andersen Corporation, have aligned with Great River Greening and The Nature Conservancy on a “Nature Preservation Day” in our hometown of Cottage Grove, Minnesota. About 20 employees spent a few hours clearing out brush to save two oak trees on an 80 acre plot of land that has been set aside as part of the South Washington County conservation corridor.

Clearing out the brush accomplishes two things: sunlight will reach the oak trees which are currently surrounded by invasive box elder trees and it will allow equipment to remove the fast growing, but short-lived Box Elder trees at a later date. Employees also learned how to stack the brush for an efficient burn.

While determined volunteers kept clearing brush, other employees turned their attention to planting native grasses and 30-40 Burr Oak saplings. They were able to plant nearly 400 seedlings of Rough Blazing Star and Prairie Smoke wildflowers in two hours. 

Many employees live in the area and were excited to learn about these conservation efforts and future plans for the land as well as share their work with their families to this public property. The general consensus is that it feels good to work for a company who works with passionate, determined and skilled organizations that are tackling incredibly important issues benefiting our planet and our people.
